Lucky Star - Compton, CA

Appearance(2):  Just looking at these Nachos made me want to reach for water to dehydrate them.  They looked so dry, even with the little pico de gallo that was thrown on top.  The chicken was fried and looked as appetizing as the greasy beans.  The big glob of sour cream on top did nothing to help the presentation.  There was little to no cheese to be found on top, which made me wonder if there was even any cheese on them.

Quality of Ingredients(2):  The fried chicken had no flavor to it and tasted extremely greasy.  The pico de gallo also had little flavor, didn’t taste very fresh nor was juicy at all, which didn’t help the already dry Nachos.  The little Velveeta cheese that was available eventually combined with the greasy beans and the fried crumbs from the chicken to become a little soupy and nasty mess.  The chips had the taste and consistency of having been sitting in the kitchen for a few days.  The freshest thing out of everything was the sour cream.  At least it provided a little moisture.  I could not finish these Nachos due to the taste and greasiness, and that’s rare for me.  Oh, and they were also lacking in guacamole which was a huge minus.

Distribution of Toppings(5):  Most of the Nachos consisted of greasy beans and fried chicken.  There was so much fried fat on the chicken that there was little actually chicken to be seen.  Eventually everything turned into a weird brown/yellowish glob that was painful to look at.  Sure there was more than enough toppings to fill up all of your stale chips, but it’s nothing that I would recommend a sane human being to consume.

Price(4):  With the most random price of $5.47 I definitely not get my money’s worth.  It doesn’t help that this place has some of the dirtiest floors and tables (even for Compton).  They had a salsa bar, which they rave about on their menu, and in their defense it had some pretty tasty items.  Considering I didn’t even finish the food due to the horrid taste, I definitely wasted my money on this one. There was enough food to fill up you and four other friends, but who has four friends that they hate that much?

Overall(13/40): Don’t eat Nachos here.   For a place that specializes in Mexican food, this was quite disappointing.  Oddly enough, other menu items are quite yummy.
